Year 10

Outdoor Education in year 10

OE in year ten at Golden Bay high school is about experiencing all that nature and New Zealand has to offer. We are privileged in this region with amazing opportunities on our doorstep. Whether it be climbing the karst limestone at Paynes ford, kayaking the local Takaka river, sea kayaking Abel Tasman national park, or tramping through the native bush in Kaurangi national park, all options are available.

It is my aim to progress students to be the best performers they can in risk management, environmental studies, and physical based pursuits. Students will not only develop their physical skills, but their environmental awareness, knowledge of the outdoors, and interpersonal skills.

The year 10 program
The year 10 program is aimed at covering many aspects around outdoor education. Covering environmental, physical skills, navigation, weather, flora and fauna. The aim is to cover many aspects to give students a well rounded understanding of the outdoors.

There will be opportunities for students to go rock climbing, caving, tramping, and sea kayaking. Dependant on the time of the year and weather conditions.
